This week, our team had a lot more that needed to be done relative to last week as we needed to finish our Alpha Code by Sunday night in order to stay on schedule for our playtesters. During the programming of the game as well as during the level design process, we missed a few ideas on what should have been implemented which were somewhat niche however, it is important that we caught what was missing now before it became an issue down the line. For example, a couple of animations that were initially not considered as they were simply missed when making our checklist. Furthermore, as a team, we needed to design questions that we wanted to get answered for our Alpha code to allow for a smoother playtest experience. Meanwhile, we have found the lectures about level design to be very useful for us, as we reworked our level structure, which was not driven by player experience much before. We will still adhere to our “hub’n’spoke” approach for the game world, so the player will have to visit all locations at their own order to assemble the ship back. But to begin the game we now also are creating an “intro” level that hopefully will help to both immerse the player and familiarize them with the game mechanics and controls.
